When your busy, seriously amazing sister who’s chasing around two beautiful kids (4 and 2 years old) all day asks if you could make her an overnight oats recipe to make morning mealtime easier, for goodness sake, you make the woman some overnight oats.
This version is as simple as it gets: 5 ingredients, 5 minutes prep time, no fancy methods, and simple ingredients. Let’s do this!
What Are Overnight Oats?
Overnight oats are a quick and easy breakfast or snack made by soaking rolled oats in liquid overnight.
We love how overnight oats seem to keep the integrity of the oat intact, helping to avoid that gummy texture that cooked versions sometimes take on.
They’re simple to prepare (no cooking required!) and perfect for when you need a make-ahead breakfast or snack, especially for those with hectic mornings.
Keep reading to learn our perfect formula for overnight oats!
How to Make Overnight Oats
After a little testing, I’m happy to report that our simple, straight-forward method truly yields the best results! I even tried partially cooking the oats with warm almond milk before refrigerating, but much preferred this completely raw version.
We use the following base formula for making perfect overnight oats:
1/2 cup Dairy-Free Milk + 3/4 Tbsp Chia Seeds + 1/2 cup Rolled Oats = Perfect Overnight Oats
You can play with formula as needed, adding more dairy-free milk for wetter oats, or adding more chia seeds (or oats) for thicker, more pudding like oats.
To make your overnight oats, simply add these ingredients to a small jar or bowl with your preferred sweetener (we love maple syrup or stevia!). We also added peanut butter to this version for a flavor and protein boost!
Give the mixture a few stirs to make sure the oats have been fully immersed in the milk. Then, cover and leave in the refrigerator overnight to let the oats soften and flavors meld.
Overnight oats FAQs
How long do overnight oats last?
Overnight oats can be prepared up to 2-3 days in advance, sometimes longer.
Can you eat overnight oats hot?
Overnight oats can be eaten hot or cold. To heat, microwave for ~45-60 seconds (just ensure there’s enough space at the top of your jar to prevent overflowing), or transfer to a saucepan and heat over medium heat until warmed through.
Can you use quick oats?
We prefer using rolled oats to make overnight oats, but you can use quick oats – they will just be softer.
Can you use steel cut oats?
Though we haven’t tried it, some people report success using steel cut oats to make overnight oats. They will take longer, require more liquid, and probably won’t be quite as soft. They may also be more difficult to digest.
Are oats gluten-free?
This is somewhat controversial as some believe even certified gluten-free oats to be troublesome for those with gluten sensitivities and celiac disease. But based on our own research and experience, it seems certified gluten-free oats make this recipe gluten-free.

Peanut Butter Overnight Oats (5 Ingredients!)
Ingredients
OATS
- 1/2 cup unsweetened plain almond milk (or sub other dairy-free milks, such as coconut, soy, or hemp!)
- 3/4 Tbsp chia seeds
- 2 Tbsp natural salted peanut butter or almond butter (creamy or crunchy // or sub other nut or seed butter)
- 1 Tbsp maple syrup (or sub coconut sugar, organic brown sugar, or stevia to taste)
- 1/2 cup gluten-free rolled oats (rolled oats are best, vs. steel cut or quick cooking)
TOPPINGS optional
- Sliced banana, strawberries, or raspberries
- Flaxseed meal or additional chia seeds
- Granola
Instructions
- To a mason jar or small bowl with a lid, add almond milk, chia seeds, peanut butter, and maple syrup (or other sweetener) and stir with a spoon to combine. The peanut butter doesn’t need to be completely mixed with the almond milk (doing so leaves swirls of peanut butter to enjoy the next day).
- Add oats and stir a few more times. Then press down with a spoon to ensure all oats have been moistened and are immersed in almond milk.
- Cover securely with a lid or seal and set in the refrigerator overnight (or for at least 6 hours) to set/soak.
- The next day, open and enjoy as is or garnish with desired toppings (see options above). See more flavor/topping suggestions in the blog post above!OPTIONAL: You can also heat your oats in the microwave for 45-60 seconds (just ensure there’s enough room at the top of your jar to allow for expansion and prevent overflow), or transfer oats to a saucepan and heat over medium heat until warmed through. Add more liquid as needed if oats get too thick/dry.
- Overnight oats will keep in the refrigerator for 2-3 days, though best within the first 12-24 hours in our experience. Not freezer friendly.

Virginia says
Just started trying overnight oats, and it helps that there are so few ingredients that result in something delish, satisfying, and healthy! Followed the recipe exactly, with the exception of dicing a little banana and mixing it in w/ the other ingredients. Oh, and I used monk fruit granulated sugar instead of maple syrup. Thanks~my sis and I totally enjoyed this.
Dana @ Minimalist Baker says
Thanks for sharing, Virginia!

This recipe was delicious! It is my go to meal!

If not using a Dairy Free Milk alternative what kind of Milk would you suggest using ?
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
Any should work! Depends on your preference for more rich or mild.

Can I add a scoop of plant based protein powder to this recipe?
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
We haven’t tried it, but it might work! Let us know how it goes!
Karen says
I love this recipe! It’s super customizable (I add some protein powder and different toppings every day) and now that I’ve made it a few times, it only takes me a few minutes to prep! It keeps me full for so long and is so filling – in a good way :)
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
We’re so glad you enjoy this recipe, Karen! Thanks so much for sharing!
Alison says
This is absolutely delicious! This is definitely going to be my go-to overnight oat recipe. I made it per the recipe and enjoyed every bite. So yum!
Leah says
Do I need chia seeds? Also I might have hemp seeds but I’m not sure if it can replace the chia seeds?
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
Hi Leah, it won’t thicken as much with hemp seeds, but it will still work! Maybe add slightly less milk?
Emily says
Great recipe! I prep 2-3 servings at a time and eat throughout the week. I have an allergy to tree nuts, so I use oat milk. I also use honey instead of syrup, and I add in a little cocoa powder to make it chocolate peanut butter flavored!
KC says
This was easy and delish! I followed the recipe exact. Straight out of the fridge, it did come out very thick/pasty. I warmed it for about a minute, then stirred it and topped it with banana and it was perfect
– thick but no longer pasty. If you want it thinner, I think adding is some extra almond milk before you warm it would work perfectly. It is a little higher in calories than I want for breakfast, so next time I will probably drop the PB down to just one tablespoon as it was plenty Peanut Buttery. I used Bob’s Red Mill Extra Thick GF rolled oats.
Alexyss says
Great recipe! I use only one tbsp of peanut/almond butter and one tsp of maple syrup. Also add some cinnamon. The next day I will add walnuts and some chocolate chips to make up for the less maple syrup ;) it’s soooo good. My husband loves it too!!! I could eat this everyday! Thank you!!!
Casper says
Delicious! I made 3 on Sunday to eat for breakfast and finished them today, and made two more to finish the work week!
Michelle says
Can you use old fashioned oats for this recipe
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
Yes! Old fashioned/rolled oats are perfect.
Sara says
I have to say I was pleasantly surprised, this was so delicious!! I used quick cooking oats, cause that’s all I had; but I just added a little more milk to thin it out and then heated it up in the microwave just fine. I also added like a 1/2 tsp of cinnamon, added blueberries and crushed pecans on top, used Vanilla Almond nut butter and left out the maple syrup and added a pinch of brown sugar. Might not have been super healthy; but it was really good and very filling.
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
We’re so glad you enjoyed it, Sara! Thanks for sharing!
Thanh says
Can we use honey for sweetening?
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
Sure!
Ruth Luciano says
Life changing!!!
Soooo good!! I made it (honey instead of maple syrup) and add raspberries and dried cranberries for topping.
Shannon Holmes says
I really enjoyed these. Very filling and I even forgot the chia seeds. I will make this again. Thanks for sharing.
Z says
I tried this a few days ago and have been eating it for breakfast every morning. I love the flavor and how satisfying it is. I know this sounds kind of unhealthy for a breakfast, but I have been adding about one tablespoon of mini chocolate chips which makes it taste like a chocolate chip, peanut butter cookie, oat cookie. This is my new favorite breakfast recipe and thank you so much for creating this awesome recipe!
Dana @ Minimalist Baker says
So great! Thanks for sharing your experience, Z! Love the chocolate chips addition ;D
Next time would you mind adding a rating to your review? It’s super helpful to us and other readers! xo
Lizzie says
Just curious why there are so many calories. 450?? That’s a lot. Wondering if almond butter would be a lower fat alternative. Any thoughts? Thanks!
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
Hi Lizzie, that’s pretty standard for a meal. But you could make smaller portions if concerned.
Tilly Cucumber says
Holy smokes! I was seriously skeptical but this came out so yum. I added just a heaping teaspoon of banana jam (if you haven’t had it….you should definitely try it. It’s sublime). Breakfast for 5 in less than 5 minutes. Finding jars to hold these took way longer so I just used glass Tupperware. Thank you for sharing and being a really wonderful sister. She is lucky to have you.
Annette says
Love this versatile recipe. I topped with granola from your Banana Bread Granola recipe. Looking forward to trying the carrot cake version.
erin says
I love this recipe! I have been making a large batch and eating over the course of a few days. I’d like to try making a few servings in individual mason jars. Sort of grab and go idea What size should I buy? I have never used masons before . Thanks for any advice.
Erin
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
Hi Erin, great idea! We would recommend using wide mouth pint size jars. They will allow room for adding toppings!
Sarah says
Instead of the sweetener, could you mix it with something like chocolate oat milk? Thanks!
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
Sure! Let us know how it goes!
Bri says
Just made these last night and ate them this morning. I followed the recipe using almond milk and almond butter with maple syrup to sweeten and regular whole chia seeds. I found it to be super dry and gummy, not creamy at all. I added more almond milk and microwaved it, hoping to save it, but it was clumpy and still not creamy. I just don’t think there was enough liquid. I did like the flavour with the almond butter and maple syrup, but just not the texture at all, I’m sorry!
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
Hmm! Did you use rolled oats? If using quick oats, that could be the issue.
Sara says
I used quick oats, cause that’s all I had. It was super thick; but I just added more milk to it to thin it down and heated it. It was delicious!
Tabatha says
I would also recommend adding a splash of extra almond milk and using a creamier nut butter (like peanut butter), I find almond butter to be not quite as creamy. And for sure rolled oats not quick oats, good luck! I make these all the time and they are so good, if you still want some almond deliciousness I add sliced almonds to mine—highly advise!
Alejandra says
Absolutely amazing!!! Love this breakfast so much. My only modification is I use ground chia seeds instead of whole ones because I prefer the consistency.
Michelle says
So yummy and perfect consistency! I added some frozen blueberries and it didn’t effect the consistency. Thank you, this is my new go to breakfast. My entire family loved it cold or warm.
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
Thanks for sharing, Michelle! We’re so glad you enjoyed it!
Tara says
This is such a life saver! My daughter (1 1/2 years old) eats oatmeal every morning and with a baby on the way, this is a great way to make the mornings a bit easier on me.
I substituted almond milk with whole milk and will probably reduce the amount of peanut butter since it was pretty thick. It’s so good and I’ll definitely be stealing many bites ?
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
Thanks so much for the lovely review and for sharing your modifications, Tara. We are so glad you enjoy this recipe! Next time, would you mind leaving a rating with your review? It’s super helpful for us and other readers. Thanks so much! Xo
Lex says
Great recipe and very easy to make! The best thing about this is that once you get all of the ingredients, you can make this for weeks with only having to get almond milk. So it is also a very inexpensive but filling breakfast. Added bananas and blueberries in the morning when I was ready to eat the oats.
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
We’re so glad you enjoy it! Thanks for sharing!
kim says
I had heard about Overnight Oats before, but never tried it. I made your recipe as is, and used 1/4 tsp of monk sugar to sweeten it, and used flat large oats instead of steel cut ones. It was a pleasant, mild flavour and made the perfect amount to feel full. I never realized the oats were simply raw.
Chia seeds are not a staple in my pantry and had to go buy them specially for this recipe. I was wondering if flax seed is another option. Have you tried flax instead of chia as an option?
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
Flax would work!
June says
I made this last night and really enjoyed it today. I went to the gym and had a huge burst of energy, and my endurance was even greater today. I wonder if it’s the chia seed. They say the chia seed is a powerhouse of nutrients. Had it with a cup of coffee and it was so tasty. Thanks.
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
Whoop! So glad you enjoyed them, June! Thanks for sharing!
Edie Mitchell says

To double or triple this recipe should be straight forward, no?
Good in refrigerator for three days so they wouldn’t spoil before one eats it up.
Thanks
Making more than one serving at a time would save more time in the mornings.
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
Yes, that should work! You can make a single batch in each jar or double/triple in a larger jar/bowl.
Leo811 says
I used old fashioned oats and Kept everything else the same and it was delicious!
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
We’re so glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for sharing!
Remy says
Would I be able to leave out the chia seeds? I saw this recipe now and I want to make it for my breakfast tomorrow btiis too late to get seeds. Also is there anything else that I can use instead of chia seeds that aren’t flaz seeds?
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
Hi Remy, yes, feel free to leave them out, but maybe reduce the liquid a little? You could try hemp seeds!
Hannah says
Hi there, love the look of this recipe. I was just wondering why freezing isn’t recommended? I thought it would be useful to make in batches then freeze individual jars.
I’ve purchased Bexfast overnight oats in the past which can be frozen and the ingredients look very similar.
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
Hi Hannah, we think it would impact the texture and make the oats soggy. But if you give it a try, let us know how it goes!
Hannah says
Ok, thank you! I’ll give it a try and let you know :)

This recipe fills up about 1/4th of a mason jar for me. Nothing like the picture or video. Am I crazy or doing something wrong? Great flavors. Please help!
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
Hi Chloe, we reused a smaller glass jar for the photos, so that might be why yours doesn’t fill the jar as fully.

I just made mine with banana and chocolate peanut butter and vanilla almond milk. Its a 10/10 for me.

My husband was “traumatized” by a failed overnight oats. This rekindled his passion for it. I actually….munched it raw before it went to the fridge and had to stop myself. It was THAT good. I actually added some flaxseed meal and seeds too for added nutrition. Perfect sweetness, packed with punch of protein. Thank you for this recipe. I’m looking forward to trying varieties of it.

One of my favorite breakfasts! Even in the winter i find myself craving overnight oats instead of heated oats. I make it almost exactly as written, except I’ll add a touch more of almond milk and spices (cinnamon, nutmeg).
Usually will top with a banana, blueberries or frozen mixed berries(I’ll put those in the jar too & let them defrost over night).

Could you add a grated apple to the overnight mixture? I added a couple of Medjool dates but I was thinking some more fruit to the overnight mixture would also be nice for added natural sweetness.
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
Hi Jules, we haven’t tried that, but it sounds lovely! The apple may turn brown though. Let us know if you give it a try!
Jackie says
Very yummy! I love this just as written, though over time I have changed the recipe to include 1 whole tablespoon of chia (just for convenience and speed), 1 tbsp pea protein, and 1 tbsp of flax. We also mix in some cacao and serve with fresh banana slices, and sometimes I omit the maple syrup and mash up a date in the bowl instead. I like a bit more protein since it is 6 to 7 hours between breakfast and lunch for me. I’ve tried making this with steel cut oats as someone else suggested, and those are a bit TOO firm for my preference. I like Bob’s Red Mill extra thick oats. Perfect for overnight oats. They stay chewy without being too firm.
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
Thanks for sharing, Jackie! SO glad you enjoy it! xo

This is my favorite overnight oats recipe!!! It is especially good with blueberries on top. I have found it also works using quick cook steel cut oats. It ends up with a chewier texture, which I prefer.

My favorite breakfast in the morning! It’s so tasty and keeps me full for 3–4 hours.
I start with peanut butter in the bowl, microwave it for 20 seconds to soften it, and then add the almond milk, sweetener, and chia seeds. (You still get yummy swirls of peanut butter, but it’s easier to stir around.)
In the morning, I add another tablespoon of almond milk, stir it up, and microwave a little over a minute.
I’ve yet to try the recipe with additional toppings—because honestly, these overnight oats are delicious and filling just as is—but I think adding a banana could be a nice touch!
Melanie Serre says
I want to include more chia seeds in my diet and I absolutely love overnight oats! Thank you for sharing this delicious recipe with us! I truly appreciate it. ❤️

I have made this recipe more times than I’d like to admit, sometimes with little variations just to change things up, and it has been phenomenal every time! We have a 3 year-old, a 2 year-old, a 1 year-old and one on the way (so overnight oats is a lifesaver for me)… and it is a HUGE hit at our house!!!
We actually made a batch this evening and our older two get a big kick out of helping in the kitchen. They were SUPER-EXCITED to assist in making their own breakfast for tomorrow morning – and to choose what they added to their own (dried berries this time). Like I said, we’ve made it A LOT and it’s always a favorite. So thankful you shared the recipe!!! :D

This is a delicious overnight oats recipe and it’s now been put into my breakfast recipe rotation. Since I like a more liquid consistency I add a bit more almond milk in the morning. I used mini chocolate chips as a topping, because who doesn’t love chocolate and peanut butter for breakfast? Thanks for a great recipe!
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
Yum! Thanks for the lovely review and for sharing your modification! xo
Sylvia B. says
I used agave syrup for my sweetener and it worked quite well. However, the oats were still pretty tough when I ate them the following day. I believe it was because they were in the fridge for give or take 6 hours. I would definitely recommend soaking longer. Soaking the oats by themselves on the counter overnight (1/2 cup steel cut oats, 1/2 cup water, probably closer to 10 hours) resulted in softer oats.
Sylvia B. says
I also used soy milk instead of almond milk.
Kcharbs says
Ahhh, the problem is that this recipe is not for steel cut oats. So yes, those will take longer to soften. You could also try blending the dry oats by themselves in a blender or even a coffee grinder.
connie says
I add the steel cut oats in boiling water for an hour before I put them in the mason jar with the other ingredients. :)
Ashishwangh says
Hi!
I read this recipe last night and just couldn’t wait to go and shop for all the ingredients you’ve mentioned… so I got down to making it right away and it was wow. The (minor) changes were
I didn’t have almond milk so I used hazelnut milk.
I didn’t have maple syrup nor brown sugar, so I used a scoop of homemade apricot jam, made from fruits in my garden. Necessity is the mother of invention ;)
And I added slivered almonds.
I love your recipe!! Of course, because it was so rich and protein-packed, I could only go for a run after breakfast ;)
Dana @ Minimalist Baker says
Thanks for sharing!!
Lynn says
This was my first overnight oats attempt (I prefer cooked oats), but have to say I was delighted! I decided that if I was going to put this into my regular breakfast rotation, I would try powdered peanut butter instead and reduce the amount of fat and calories. It wasn’t quite the same (after all, is there anything better than peanut butter?), but it was a very acceptable alternative. I used 2 heaping tablespoons of the powder, a dash of salt, and a little extra almond milk and it turned out great! I recommend giving it a try if you love the flavor of peanut butter, but not all the fat and calories that go along with it!
Dana @ Minimalist Baker says
Thanks for sharing, Lynn!

I am obsessed with these! I quadruple the recipe and eat them for breakfast during the week. By far my favorite overnight oatmeal recipe! :)

Support @ Minimalist Baker says
The salt/salted peanut butter elevates the recipe a notch, but it should still be delicious without!

Do the oats need to be boiled beforehand or do we just add raw ones?
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
Raw. Hope that helps!

You made a comment about preferring steel cut oats. You do know you can make overnight oats with steel cut oats? They just truly take overnight. In fact, I make them before I make my dinner and put in the fridge for the next day, and give a stir before bed. Also, I find they need a little extra liquid. They are amazing with yogart and fruit. Another thing to know about overnight steel cut oats is they keep a lot better over time, so I will make a batch for multiple days. Anyhow, excited to try the peanut butter. Love peanut butter in my hot oatmeal, so I am excited to try it this way.
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
Thanks for the suggestion, Amber! Happy cooking!

This is seriously the most delicious, easiest recipe I’ve made for breakfast. I’ve always been grossed out by oats because of how gummy they usually are- these were not gummy at all. I made them 20hrs in advance and they were perfect. I used less than 1Tbsp of maple syrup and they were perfectly sweet. I stumbled upon this “Oldie” last night as I was trying to prep for this morning – my first morning alone with my three kiddos (4yo, 2yo and 8weeks). Getting them dressed, fed and out the door is always challenging. I decided I would try overnight oats to make my morning easier. Having it prepped last night have me the confidence to handle the morning and, having BOTH my girls eat their breakfast (or at least most of it) made my morning a huge success! I had made a triple recipe (one for each of us) but if/when I do it again, i will make only 2 as I ended up splitting one between my girls. I sliced up a banana, swirled a little PB and topped it off with some chopped walnuts and they felt like they were having a treat for breakfast.
This is also a great find for me as a breastfeeding mom who’s trying to keep up her supply (oats help milk production).
Thank you so much for the easy, kid friendly recipe!

I have tried several different overnight oats recipes, but this one is hands-down the easiest and tastiest! I can’t handle many textures or weird flavors (yogurt is a no-go) in the mornings. I will admit I was slightly terrified to take the first bite, feaeful of the gag reflex. I was so pleasantly surprised though! These oats are my new go-to morning favorite. And they are so healthy! My natural peanut butter was lacking some oil due to a stirring mishap, so my peanut butter chunk sunk to the bottom. I’ll just leave it out in the future because they were super yummy even without that addition. I’ll add some in, or some almond butter or even Nutella for a special treat in the future.

I’ve made this recipe before as is and it was delicious. This time I subbed in Dark Chocolate Almond Milk instead of plain unsweetened, and it tasted like peanut butter cup dessert! So good!

Thank you Dana!!! You have made going vegan a joy. I have been sharing your recipes with my family for more than a year and I’ve never had a dud, they all turn out amazing!!! This recipe is the bomb and no exception!! So If there is a moment you think it doesn’t matter, realize that you’re helping make the quality of peoples lives better… I would be lost as GF & Vegan without your help!
Thanks from me and my family!

I usually never leave comments, but I just had to say that this is the best overnight oats recipe EVER. I’ve tried making overnight oats countless times since they first got popular and I always thought people were A) nuts B) liars for saying how much they enjoyed them *until I tried this recipe*.
I’ve had this every morning for two weeks straight! I add a splash of unsweetened vanilla almond milk in the morning and top mine with sliced banana and almond slivers.

So glad to hear you enjoyed this recipe, Elle! Thanks for your lovely review!

Made this last night and am currently eating it right now. I topped mine with half a sliced banana. I literally could eat this every morning!! I made another overnight oats recipe a couple of weeks ago and this one here blows the other out of the water!! Definitely sharing this recipe with everyone I know. Thank you !

SO glad we found this recipe! My husband and I make this regularly and its insanely fast and simple to make, and the consistency is like fancy rice pudding it’s delicious. I’ve started messing around with some spices in it and have found that a little bit of cinnamon (or if you’re feeling fancy also AllSpice and Ginger) really makes a fab addition as well. Can’t believe I’d never tried overnight oats before this but I’m a total convert now
Laura says
I have tried a couple other overnight oats and these are by far the best! Delicious! I did not modify it at all – love the peanut butter! Only request is for more overnight oat recipes!!

Great! So glad you enjoyed these, Laura. Thanks for sharing.

This looks amazing! So much so that I have a pot waiting for me once breakfast rolls around in a couple of hours :D as soon as I saw it last night, I knew I needed to give it a try!
I added up the macros on MFP and I don’t know if it’s the peanut butter I’m using but it indicated that this recipe’s got a whopping 22g of protein in it!! Really can’t complain at that :p
Kate says
Can confirm; utterly delicious! Those little pockets of peanut butter are incredible. I took the extra step when preparing it of heating the peanut butter up in a small bowl for a short while, just to make it more ‘loose’ so that it mixed in better than leaving it solid (and my peanut butter is VERY solid!), which worked rather well.
Also, apparently I am an idiot – I was using protein-added oats so of COURSE my protein macro was higher! Duh!
I think this may well end up as my breakfast every morning for the rest of the week :p
Patty says
Can I add protein powder to this? If so, how much water would I need to add?
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
Yes! I’d start with half a scoop and go from there :D
Meagan says
Can you use regular cows milk?
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
Yes, you can use any kind of milk you like!

This recipe is my go to! Love love love. My bf loves it too. Simple and perfect

So incredibly delicious!! I made it with Vanilla Almond milk & threw in a few carob chips. When I was ready to eat, I warmed it just a bit, added granola & Hemp Hearts. Just wonderful!!!!
Lauren says
Any tips on how to make this but with 30 carbs? My dietician wants me to aim for that at breakfast.
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
I’d recommend just eating half a serving in that case, Lauren!

Hello I am swedish and I looooove this! But with this recipe can I heat it up in the morning or is it better cold?
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
I prefer it warm, but you can do either option!

Since we aren’t really interested in eating anything before we get to work where we get hungry around 8:30 these have been PERFECT to making sure we eat breakfast. So easy to prep the night before and throw it in our bags for a desk breakfast. Neither of us particularly cared for oatmeal of any kind before this recipe. We love it! We add blueberries in the morning for a kick of antioxidants and to get some more fruit in our diets. Thank you for breakfast!

I have made this recipe several times and have tried minor alterations each time just to try out different versions of the same recipe and every time, my oats have come out amazing and delicious. The one alteration I would suggest to most anyone, and of course everyone has a different preference on consistency, is that I add an extra splash of almond milk after I have finished preparing my oats. I make the full recipe and then at the end, I add justa splash more milk to make sure everything is fully covered with a small extra layer of milk over the top. I found that without doing this, my oats in the morning are extremely thick and sticky so this just gives it a touch more of a creamy consistency. I’ve also tried making this with half of the peanut butter being extra crunchy pb and the other half being almond butter. This gives the oats a little bit of a crunch to break up the consistency and a really nice touch as well as a womderful mixture of delicious flavors. Also, in the morning when I am ready to eat my oats, I add banana slices and strawberry slices just before I eat it so that they are very fresh and the texture and flavor is as rich and fresh and delicious as possible. This is truly the best overnight oats recipe I have tried yet. LOVE it!! One last tid-bit; if you prefer to have your peanut butter or almond butter mixed smoothly into the oats rather than having larger swirls and chunks of it throughout it, if you mix the syrup snd peanut butter together before adding it to the recipe, it thins it out just enough so that it mixes smoothly right into the mixture entirely rather than being swirls and gobs of peanut butter throughout. However, I quite enjoy the peanut and almond butter swirl surprises in my bites of oats!!! Thank you for the recipe!!! Very enjoyable!! <3

I loved this recipe! It is delicious. I usually add a little more milk after it sits in the fridge overnight, because it can harden.

So good, right!?

I have made this recipe many times. Now that I am working on losing weight, I have substituted peanut butter powder to keep the fat content down and it’s still really delish.

Smart!

This looks amazing! But I was wondering if it needs to be refridgerated over night since it is made with almond milk? I’m going backpacking and would love to have breakfast already prepared for the morning, but that also means no refrigerator. Please let me know :)
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
Yes, we’d definitely recommend refrigerating!

I. Love this. My vegan daughter brought the recipe when she came for a visit. However, I use it for a snack. I guess because I need to loose weight and a bit uneasy with the nutritional values. Can you enlighten
Me. How this is only one serving.
Thank you
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
Hi Randi! You could always cut the portions in half for a snack to opt for something lighter.

Can I prep overnight oats for the entire week ahead of time on a Sunday? Will the oats be okay to eat by the time it is Thursday or Friday?
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
This recipe is best fresh and will keep for 2-3 days. I’d recommend making it a couple times throughout the week!

The oats were amazing! I ate them for breakfast this morning, and I added some rasberries and a little bit of my homemade granola…. Delish! Thank you so much Dana!

Made this for the first time -delicious! My kid stole the rest of mine since he tasted it and liked it so much. Happy to have a new, quick breakfast option.

Thank you for this easy recipe! I made this directly in the peanut butter jar to use up the last scrapings of peanut butter. I had no chia seeds and used dairy milk and also doubled the ingredients as it was a big jar. So delicious!!

Smart! Thanks so much for sharing, Wendy! We’re glad you enjoyed it! Next time, would you mind leaving a rating with your review? It’s super helpful for us and other readers. xo

Hi, could I use ground chia seeds? And if so should I wait and add them in the morning or still put them in to soak over night?
Thanks!
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
I think it would work but we haven’t tried it ourselves! If you experiment with it, report back! Good luck :D
Katia says
Would it make a difference if you add the nut butter in the morning after the oats soaked or when you mix everything in?
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
No, I don’t think so!

This is so good. I’ve just made a variation of PB and Blackberry Jam! Only 1 tbsp peanut butter, 1 tbsp of blackberry jam (or any jam, I used a sugar free homemade one) 1/2 TSP maple syrup, the rest of the ingredients in the same quantities. (Swirl the jam in after combining this rest of the ingredients). I have yet to taste this concoction as it is chilling overnight now but it looks good (especially topped with more jam, peanuts and cacoa nibs!)
Overnight oats are for sure my favourite breakfast, both for nutrition and for speed (though I love smoothies too…)
Thank you for this recipe! The origionaL is great just as written (but I only used a TSP of sweetener, an adjustment I always make).
