The only fruit I used to like eating when I was little was canned pears. I KNOW. Gross. I think it was a texture, sweetness thing…Anyway the LAST fruit I would ever eat as a kid was peaches. The fuzzy skin just set me off. But then, one summer I tried a peach milkshake and my life has never been the same.
All it took was covering it with ice cream to change my mind. Go figure.
These days I’m eating peaches in all kinds of things – crisps, green salads, fruit salads, and, more recently, smoothies.
This recipe features two ripe peaches as the star ingredient, frozen banana adds sweetness and texture, and orange juice adds a bit of tartness. Chia seeds make it gel up a bit and thicken, plus add a ton of health perks. And the oats provide tons o’ fiber, manganese, and what-not. Oy!
This smoothie is sweet, slightly tart, thick and creamy and super satisfying for breakfast or a snack. John and I split a batch recently with our morning coffee and both agreed it felt wholesome, just sweet enough and totally peach-y. Hooray!
Peach Oat Smoothie
Ingredients
- 2 ripe peaches (quartered, pits removed*)
- 1 Tbsp chia seeds
- 1/4 cup rolled oats (gluten-free for GF eaters)
- 1/2 frozen banana (peeled before freezing)
- 1/4 cup fresh orange juice
- 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1 Tbsp agave, maple syrup, or a pinch of stevia (optional // for added sweetness // or honey for non-vegan)
Instructions
- Add all ingredients to a blender and let set for 5-10 minutes so the oats and chia seeds can soak. Then blend until smooth.
- To thicken, add another quarter-half a frozen banana (amount as original recipe is written // adjust if altering batch size). To thin, add more almond milk or OJ.
- Taste and adjust flavor as needed. I added a touch of agave.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
*Nutrition information is a rough estimate.

By far th best overnight oats!
Hannah says
A yummy combination. It may be more practical to add the chia seeds and oats with liquid before any of the fruit – the seeds get stuck on everything and aren’t able to soak.

Delish! Hot afternoon snack, so refreshing and delicious! Everyone in the family loved it! I used a date (instead of syrup), no OJ (didn’t have), a few ice cubes and hemp seeds on top. Thank you!

Great! Thank you for sharing, Tracie! xo

Didn’t have orange juice so used unsweetened apple juice, I’d frozen bananas and fresh peaches last month, so blended to soft serve consistency and ate with a spoon after workout – sprinkle of cinnamon and it’s heaven. Didn’t need sweetening. Thank you for a great recipe!

This recipe is great! I just made this as “1” serving using your recipe for 2 serving with the following mods: 2 Tbsp oats, no orange juice, 0.25 cup cashew milk, 1 Tbsp chocolate hazelnut spread, enough water for the texture I like and 3 ice cubes to make it colder.
I would definitely make tit again. It is a delicious and quick way to have a healthy and sweet treat. Thank you for this recipe!
Krissy says
Oh! And I added a large handful of spinach.

I’ve made this recipe a ton and absolutely love it (especially the oats, which I never thought about adding to a smoothie). But, I only had a few frozen peaches tonight, so I added some frozen raspberries, and oh mama! The raspberries added a great flavor and a nice color to it!
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
Yum! Thanks for sharing, Rhett! xo

I used water and a whole banana because I didn’t have almond milk. Even without it, it was creamy and the taste was light and refreshing. :)
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
So glad to hear it, Denise! Thanks so much for sharing!

This was delicious. I did not need to add the honey or agave as it was sweet enough without. Definitely will make again. I actually ate it with a spoon.

My new favorite smoothie! I never thought of putting oats in a smoothie… but it’s something different and I feel like it makes it more filling! The little bit of OJ in there really makes this drink pop!

Hi, I’m loving this idea however I’m allergic to banana and kiwi. What would be a suitable substitute??
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
You could try avocado or cauliflower! Both may seem like unusual smoothie ingredients but create a creamy texture!
Mel says
Made this smoothie this morning because my partner came home with a box of peaches yesterday. I ate the whole 2 servings myself since it was the exact amount needed for my container, and it tasted amazing!! I topped it off with a bit of cacao nibs because I can’t have a smoothie without them ^^ Thank you for sharing!
Tammy Potter says
This is amazing! Made it for breakfast and can’t believe how delish!! Thanks for the recipe!
Jessica says
This was a great way to use up some ripe seasonal peaches for a late afternoon curb-the-cravings boost. I am anti-banana (blech) so I subbed in some frozen blueberries I had on hand so not quite as creamy but a lovely color. I liked the addition of the orange juice – sometimes peaches get super sweet for me and the juice provided a nice balance. This will go into heavy rotation until peach season ends! Thanks, Dana. I love every single thing I make from your blog.

Hi! Interesting recipe..would love to try it. Quick question though– can its be eaten without cooking? Are they easily digestible if added like this?
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
Hi! This recipe requires no cooking!
Debbie says
How much frozen peaches should you use if it’s not peach season
Support @ Minimalist Baker says
Hi Debbie, ~1 1/3 cups. You can add more peaches if it’s too thin or add more dairy-free milk and orange juice if it’s too thick. Hope that helps!
Edi - SunCakeMom says
I haven’t thought using oat or chia seed for my drinks so far. It looks so intriguing that I can’t resist to try them though!

I just got some California grown peaches at my local farmer’s market and knew they’d be delicious in a smoothie. Thanks for this recipe. The smoothie was amazing! I made it in my new NutriBullet Rx – in one minute it was perfectly blended!

I have a bunch of peaches in my fridge and was craving a smoothie so searched the Internet and found this amazing recipe, but replaced the frozen fruit by fresh because I needed it right at that moment!! Love this… Could you try making a Nutella, or chocolate spread smoothie/milkshake?
Kris says
Just tried it but used soy instead and added a bit of crushed ice to thin it out and chill it more. My family loved it and I absolutely loved the oats and chia to thicken the smoothie. Great way to sneak in more omega-3’s and fiber. This will be a staple at our house. Thanks so much!

This was so yummy! I had 2 ripe peaches left over and I used 1 ripe banana instead of 1/2 a frozen one and it was so lovely and creamy. Tasted like a dessert and it was perfect with my apple for lunch because the chia seeds and oats will keep me full.
Glynis says
This was delicious as a snack! They had a sale on frozen peaches, so I decided to try this out. The oats and chia were perfect to support my current breastfeeding needs, and I have to admit, I drank the whole damn thing. I didn’t have OJ so I just used more almond milk!

I made a peach dish and brought some to my elderly mother….her first comment was, ” I never liked peaches all that much…” Leave it to her to deflate me right there and then. A few hours later, I got a phone call from her. Mind you, this woman never touches a phone voluntarily! She called to tell me how wonderful the peach dish (bread pudding) was! SO, that being said… Peaches Rule! If ya thought you don’t care for them, try them again. Maybe you will change your mind…try this smoothie. That will “seal the deal”

I found this recipe after searching Google for a peach smoothie recipe. It was so good that even my husband, who is not a fan of smoothies, chugged it down and asked me to make more.
Dana @ Minimalist Baker says
That’s a huge compliment! Husband approved :D

This is my new favorite smoothie. I used frozen peaches and good maple syrup. Someone online suggested 2/3 cup peaches = 1 peach. They probably were referencing fresh and not frozen peaches, but you might use that as a rough guide. Thanks for the recipe!

One more question…are the oats the quick kind or the traditional long cooking variety? Thanks! I am new to the world of smoothies, just got a blendtec and have fallen in love! :)
Dana @ Minimalist Baker says
Just regular rolled oats! Good question.
Sharbear says
I have steel cut oats. Is that the same as rolled oats?

Frozen peaches – about what amount would you use in place of fresh?

I loved this! I had to use frozen peaches since it is April in the Midwest, but this smoothie reminded me of peach pie. Yum!

Love it! I rely on frozen fruits a lot as we’re in the Midwest, too. Glad you enjoyed this smoothie, Deborah!

Hi — I just found your blog this weekend and I am already obsessed! I made a batch of the pumpkin currant bread (with dried cherries substituted in) with the cashew maple frosting. I also tried out your favorite green smoothie recipe today (yum) and then just made a batch of this smoothie wish strawberries substituted for the peaches since I didn’t have any peaches. Its still great – I even added a bunch of spinach at the end because I like to start my day with veggies. Thank you so much for your recipes and great blog!

YUMMY! Looks delicious.
I was told by my doctor whole oats is AWESOME for healthy eating & great as fiber. He also suggested NOT to combine it w/ fruit/vegetables. Fruit/vegetables have so much nutrients & vitamins so eating it w/ oats will absorb both away & will easily be brushed away from our system. It would be best to eat oats a few hours after eating fruits &/or vegetables to stay w/ these nutrients/vitamins.
TS says
Could you freeze this? Trying to come up with light, nutritious things my daughter can have between school and field hockey practice. I work so I need something I can pull from the freezer and keep in the work fridge/freezer.
Dana @ Minimalist Baker says
Yes! You can freeze it. Just do so in a ball jar or something and then let it set out for an hour or so before consuming. Hope that helps!
Nathalie says
Looks yummy! perfect for a summer day!

Why frozen banana? I’ve never had a good smoothie where the banana was frozen and I’ve had a lot of banana smoothies.
Dana @ Minimalist Baker says
Frozen banana is the KEY to a creamy, naturally sweetened smoothie without any ice. I love using frozen fruit in general in place of ice cubes to keep it creamy. Plus, I like my smoothies super thick and creamy, which is easily achieved with frozen bananas. Hope that helps!
Robert Wall says
The banana’s creaminess is so much so, in fact, that I know a lady who runs frozen bananas through her juicer (obviously they don’t juice – they turn into a semi-frozen puree) to make a banana “ice cream” for her grandkids.
Apparently the grandkids think it’s quite awesome. :)

Ah how I miss peaches! Cannot wait til summer reaches my side of the world, I love them soo much and always have – on it’s own, on overnight oats, with pancakes… you’re get my drift. This smoothie looks like bliss! I can imaginessoaking the oats would help achieving a creamy consistency (for my crappy blender) and nake it easier to digest too!

Quick question: How do you clean the straws after drinking a smoothie? I would make smoothies on-the-go more often, but it’s tough to get the stuff out of the straw after a morning of errands, etc.
Dana @ Minimalist Baker says
EASY! First, rinse them out as soon as possible when you get home, but if not, no biggie. Wash them with a scrubber, soap and hot water and to get that tough build up down the inside of the straw, stick a wet q-tip down the middle and blast it through with warm water. Do this several times until you have a clean straw! Hope that helps :D
LORI says
I use pipe cleaners.
Julie says
I bought a straw cleaner at Bed Bath & Beyond. Basically a long skinny brush.
