You know that whole hatred of airports thing I told you about, and how Jamba Juice is their one saving grace?

Well, my affection for this smoothie shop has grown even greater recently with the addition of their green smoothie line. No longer just fruit, they also pack a vegetable punch (ftw)!

My absolute favorite green smoothie at the moment is their ‘Greens and Ginger’ smoothie. You guys, I’m straight up obsessed.

I think you know where this is going. Let’s make a smoothie!

This smoothie is a 1-blender situation, requiring only 5 minutes and 5 ingredients to prepare!

Because peaches are out of season here in Oregon, I relied on organic frozen fruit. It’s not quite as good as the fresh, in-season stuff, but I simply couldn’t wait, and it was enough to satisfy my cravings for this super delicious smoothie.

As soon as summer gets here, though, I intend to buy up all the peaches I see and freeze them for future smoothie bliss. I am not kidding – all the peaches.

What you need to know about this smoothie: It’s

Smooth, but not overly creamy
Perfectly tart
Not too sweet
Loaded with greens, but masks their flavor well
Gingery
Fruity
Nutrient-packed
Delicious

The old me craved smoothies that tasted like a peanut butter milkshake, or a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. But these days, I find myself gravitating toward gingery, tart green smoothies with only a little sweetness. Call me mature, why don’t you. OK seriously, I’m waiting though…

Mango Ginger Kale Green Smoothie

My NEW favorite green smoothie that requires just 5 ingredients and is inspired by Jamba Juice! Tart and sweet thanks to kale, lemon, ginger, peaches, and mango! Super refreshing and antioxidant-packed.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup ice (optional)
  • 2 cups packed kale (fresh or frozen // organic when possible)
  • 1 cup ripe frozen mango cubes (organic when possible)
  • 1 cup ripe frozen peaches (organic when possible)
  • 1 Tbsp minced fresh ginger
  • 1 ½ – 2 lemons or limes, juiced (1 ½ – 2 lemons yield ~1/4 cup or 60 ml juice)
  • 1 ½ – 2 cups filtered water
  • 1 Tbsp maple syrup (optional // depending on sweetness of fruit)

Instructions

  • Add ice to the blender first and crush. Then add kale, mango, peaches, ginger, lemon juice (starting with 1 lemon (2 Tbsp or 30 ml juice) and working your way up) and 1 cup water (240 ml) to start. The amount of water will depend on how many of your ingredients are frozen.
  • Blend until smooth, only adding water a little at a time as needed, and scraping down the sides/mixing as needed.
  • Once well blended, taste and adjust seasonings as needed. If too tart, add more fruit or a little maple syrup (optional). For more zing, add ginger. And for more acidity, add more lemon juice. To make it thicker/colder, add more ice. Blend as needed.
  • Divide between two serving glasses and enjoy immediately. Best when fresh, though leftovers will keep covered in the refrigerator for 24 hours.

    I made this today and I have to say it was absolutely delicious and very moorish. It’s going to be a daily must for me as I find eating greens difficult and what better way than doing it in a delicious drink. My question is whether I could add in other foods whilst maintaining its deliciousness. Do you think adding flax seed meal or hemp seeds or chia seeds would ruin it or would it just make the shake thicker. Anyway thank you so much for this recipe!

    Green drink recipes can be so hit or miss, but this was goooood! I added a tad more maple syrup just so that my 5-yo wouldn’t bristle at the ginger, but it’s a winner. I’ll try to adapt this by adding protein powder to it next time, but I like try recipes as written the first time before making adjustments. Thanks for sharing your gift with the rest of us!

        For anyone reading, this made for a good protein shake as well. I added 2 scoops of chia seeds, 1 scoop of unflavored protein powder, 1/3 avocado (and added half tbsp more of maple syrup) to this base recipe and it turned into a nice, creamy, protein snack. It cuts down on the tartness of the base recipe for those who might be turned off by the lemon/lime acid – which is the aspect I particularly liked. Obviously this is all about adjusting to personal taste preferences, but the point is that this could serve as a refreshing protein smoothie (with no need for banana!). Thanks again for posting!

    I adore the Jamba Greens & Ginger smoothie, and this recipe 100% does the trick when I’m craving one. The nearest Jamba is a solid 30 min away, so thank you for creating this epic dupe that helps me save $$ by making it at home! I like to add vanilla protein powder, and the added flavor eliminates the need for me to add maple syrup.

    I made this today for like the tenth time and it is still so good I felt I should come a leave a review. I had never tried kale or ginger in smoothies before and I was clearly missing out lol

    I have made it with spinach instead of kale sometimes and tropical or orange juice if I am out of lemons, no peaches, etc. and it is still a winner! :-)

    I loved this smoothie! I can’t eat bananas, so I’m always on the hunt for smoothies without banana! It was so refreshing and light-tasting. I used spinach for the kale, as my grocery store was out of kale. I also subbed coconut water for the plain water, and added a couple of tablespoons of hemp seeds to add some healthy fats and more protein. Great recipe!

    I love this smoothie. I love the lightness to it and the flavors blend perfectly. I was happy it didn’t taste too sweet with the fruit, and it didn’t give me brain fog like some smoothies do. I did not use the maple syrup and I added a tsp of Anima Mundi Liver Support, which is chock full of other greens and I am feeling great! Thanks for this recipe; I can’t wait to try some of the others!

    Yum! My first foray into a smoothie with ginger and this was a hit. I swapped spinach in for the kale and used all mango. It’s puckery, fruity, and has a lingering heat from the ginger. Absolutely delicious and flexible recipe to make with the greens and frozen fruit you have. I’ve made a few more times successfully adding frozen banana, swapping in honey for syrup, and sometimes using half almond milk or OJ with the water. Thanks for this great recipe!

    This is hands down my new favorite smoothie–Just like you, when I started making them a few years ago they all had to have some kind of milk/juice or yogurt or all three. These days I’m leaning toward the more juice like smoothies with lots of greens. This is better as good if not better than the speedy smoothies I’ve purchased at Jamba Juice.

    I didn’t have peaches so I used some frozen pineapple chunks I had on hand. It didn’t need the maple syrup at all. And as a bonus–my picky hubby even liked it and requested I make it again! Thats means it must be really great!

    Yum! My first kale smoothie and my first smoothie with ginger, and it was really refreshing. I don’t like kale, but I know it’s good for me, and I loved this! I made it with mango and pineapple (because I didn’t have peaches). I think I like this better than the creamier smoothies (the ones with almond milk and/or nut butter). Thank you for a great recipe!

    This recipe is delicious!! So refreshing + healthy. :) I didn’t have any frozen peaches, so I used a banana, I also used oat milk to make it creamier, and I added 1 tbsp of ground flax seed. I love it, definitely my new go-to morning smoothie!

    This is delicious! Light and healthy, tart but slightly sweet. I’ve been into the chocolate peanut butter banana shake on the blog lately, which is delicious, but with the summer heat this smoothie feels more up my alley right now. I didn’t have frozen peaches and used all mango. Yummm.

    Love it! I added two extra tablespoons of coconut sugar on top of the 2 tablespoons of maple syrup, since we wanted a little more sweetness. It tastes better than the Greens and Ginger smoothie from Jamba Juice, and especially healthier since we can control the amount of sugar. Thank you for this wonderful recipe!

    I don’t think I’ve ever commented on a recipe before. Even when I really enjoy something, it just never occurs to me to write a review, but I would be remiss if I didn’t comment on this one. As someone who makes smothies ALL the time, I have to say that this recipe is fantastic! I’ve made it a few times now, and it’s always a crowd-pleaser. It even tolerates small substitutions well (nectarines for peaches, beet greens for kale, etc.), and it’s really helping me to make use of all the extra greens in our garden!

    This was almost spot on to the Jamba Juice version!! I just had one about a week ago that was sweeter, so I actually had to add 2 Tbsp of maple syrup. I don’t think my fruit was as ripe as it could’ve been. But this is A GREAT knock off!!!! Thanks Dana for creating this recipe!!!! Hats off to you!!!!

    I am trying to understand that if I keep the serving as ‘2’, will it make 2 cups (250ml) of smoothie or more than that. Managing the content to ensure portion is appropriate is one of my biggest struggle. Can someone please clarify?

      Tastes somewhat like the Jamba juice version, but mine did not have nearly the flavor that the store’s has. I think if I make it again next time I will use some apple juice or mango nectar instead of water.

    It’s a little astringent for me because I probably added too much kale. Even so, it’s quite good. I may just tweek the fruit/Kale ratio a bit next time or add a little more maple syrup. I definitely appreciate that it is not as saccharine as the Jamba version. ?

    Minimalist baker is my GO TO for vegan recipes. I can always trust that a recipe will be good. This smoothie was no different!! I was craving a green smoothie and I had some ginger to use, so this was the perfect recipe for me. It’s soooooooo good! I didn’t add any maple syrup because I like my smoothies tart. It’s so difficult to find a smoothie somewhere that doesn’t add a ton of sugar, so why not just make it yourself?

    This is the first green smoothie I’ve made and it was delicious! I used a power greens blend from the salad section, ginger, fresh squeezed lemon, no added sugar frozen mango, and added some chia seeds to it as well. I have a major sweet tooth but, I did not put any sweetener and it was still perfectly sweet and tart. Thanks for this perfect recipe!

    I used spinach instead of kale..what I had on hand. Organic mango juice (from Costco) as the base, spinach, frozen peaches, fresh grated ginger as specified, and mixed it up! It was delicious!! Tasted like the greens and ginger at Jamba. Family like it a lot!! ? Thank you!!

    I don’t typically go to JJ because they’re kind of expensive for me. I was hanging out with my college-aged kid and we stopped to get smoothies. I went for this one and holy cow! It’s SO good!! So I bought ingredients to try it out but was unsure about proportions. So glad I found this!!

    What do you think about using ginger paste?? I typically have that on hand.

    I made this today w some additions. It was a great base! I added a few slices of cucumber, a nub of celery, some mint leaves, and a little greek yogurt and hemp protein to make it a little more filling. Not sure if it was my additions or my blender but it came out a little thick, so I ate it as a smoothie bowl. Amazing flavor!

    This recipe is great! I love it! Not quite as sweet as Jamba Juice, but I like it more. You’ve heard of dump meals, well I made this into a dump smoothie. I put all ingredients except the fresh lemon juice and water in ziplocks and froze them for morning smoothies. No ice required, but perhaps I’ll need a little more water. :-) Thanks Dana!

    I just made this smoothie and I love it! I only used 1c of frozen kale as it is chopped quite fine and I did have to use the maple syrup to sweeten. I love this smoothie and will be making it on a regular basis. I’m not on instragram :(

    Jamba Juice’s menu says: “Kale, mango, peach, lemon and ginger”. But if you look on their website, it’s not lemon but “lemonade” with 67g of sugar. I just bought one and had to take it back after looking online why it was so sweet and had 400 calories, although Jamba Juice claims “No added sugar”.

    I can’t wait to try your version! :)

    This is now our (husband’s and mine) go-to smoothie. We made lemon juice ice cubes in the ice tray and made individual bags with the ingredients. We just make a weeks worth and it is the easiest thing to pop in the blender and go. We LOVE this recipe….I somehow keep increasing the ginger though. I think I am becoming obsessed.

    That “Greens and Ginger” Jamba Juice smoothie starts with lemonade and has 66g of sugar! Not a healthy option at all, if you ask me. A can of Coca Cola “only” has 39g of sugar. Why can’t Jamba just use fruit like we do at home?

    Easy, quick and simple! I tried this smoothie at home and it turned out delicious. However, instead of using the frozen canned fruits, I made use of freshly chopped fruits in addition to lemon and ginger.

      Jamba juice just hits that sweet spot for everybody (just not the $$ tag) which is why making a smoothie like this is pretty awesome. The ginger kick is intriguing! Never tried it in a smoothie before but I’m sold. Trying to lower my bad cholesterol here still and this is exactly what the Dr. ordered.
