Chili Lime Mango Margaritas

If you don’t know I’m a margarita lover by now, now you know.

But do I have a mango version? No, despite mango being one of my favorite fruits.

I think you know where this is going.

Blender filled with ingredients for making easy blended mango margaritas

A couple of weeks ago, I had one of those days where I’d been in the kitchen for one too many hours and didn’t feel like cooking. Mexican food to the rescue.

There’s always Chipotle, but one of our favorite local Mexican restaurants just took over a space just a few blocks from our apartment, so we hiked over there to satisfy our cravings.

Best. Decision. Ever.

Freshly blended mango for making homemade Mango Chili Margaritas

We sat down and the margaritas were calling. We went with a spicy citrus one and it was perfect – tangy and sweet with a kick. One sip and I immediately felt inspired to make a version of my own at home.

Making Chili Lime rims on glasses for homemade spicy margaritas

This recipe is simple, requiring just 10 minutes and less than 10 ingredients! And it’s extremely customizable.

Use frozen mango (or other fruit of choice) for a blended frozen margarita, or use un-chilled mango and serve over ice for an “on the rocks” application.

For a little heat to balance out the sweetness of the mango, I add some hot sauce and chili powder on the rim. But you could omit these if you aren’t into spicy things.

I think you guys are going to love this margarita! It’s:

Super fruity
Citrusy
Boozy
Perfectly sweet
Subtly spiced
Refreshing
& Seriously delicious

This is the perfect drink for spring and summer, and goes great with pretty much all Mexican food – probably my favorite food of all. Who’s with me?

Ingredients

MARGARITAS

  • 1 ripe mango (cubed // 1 mango yields ~1 cup or 157 g)*
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 2 small limes (juiced // ~1 ounce)
  • 2.5 -3 ounces silver tequila (depending on preferred strength of drink)
  • 1 ounce triple sec or orange liqueur
  • 1 dash hot sauce (optional)
  • 1-3 Tbsp agave nectar or maple syrup (depending on sweetness of mango)

CHILI SALT RIM

  • 1 lime wedge for rimming
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt

Instructions

  • Add all margarita ingredients to a blender and blend until creamy and smooth. Taste and adjust sweetness / strength of alcohol as desired.
  • To chill, either blend in a large handful of ice cubes to make a frozen margarita or transfer half of the mixture to a cocktail shaker with plenty of ice and shake vigorously.
  • Rim serving glasses with a lime wedge and immediately dip in salt/chili powder mixture (or sub just salt or sugar), and fill with 1 large ice cube or several small. Pour over margarita and garnish with lime wedge.

Perfect recipe! The best that I have ever found. For so many years I have tried to replicate this drink as one of my favorite restaurants makes a mean mango margarita, but they also charge a whopping $12 for each! I used Grand Marnier as the orange liquor, 2oz of Tequila per drink and used frozen organic mango I bought from Costco (2/3 of a cup for every two drinks). I used Tajin (chili/salt/lime Mexican Fruit Seasoning) for the glass rim and added it to the drink as a garnish. Thank so much for this amazing recipe!

Omg I love this recipe. I made it while preparing the vegan tortilla soup. New hit for sure. Thanks for this addition.

  3. Teri H. says

This margarita is SOOOOO GOOD!! The only thing I changed, because I didn’t have hot sauce, was to add three slices of jalapeno to the blender to give it a little kick. Definitely using this recipe again!

Hi! I was wondering what kind of result I would get making this recipe with frozen mango chunks. I do like frozen margaritas and that’s also what I have on hand. Would you recommend any modifications? Perhaps more orange juice?

  5. Carol says

Found ripe mangoes at market. Made these for Cinco de Mayo. Delish. BTW: Simply Orange makes an orange juice with mango, so I swapped it in for the OJ. Really rocked the flavor, and now I’m making better ‘Ritas than my favorite Mexican haunt. Shhhh!

  6. Hannah says

The best mango margarita I’ve had is with the rim dipped in chamoy and tajin, you should be able to find both in the Mexican section of your grocery store

  7. Lauren says

Had a sudden urge for a mango margarita so I used your reicepe and wow was it amazing!!! I wouldn’t change a thing, can’t wait to make it again!!

    • Betsy D says

I was trying to find a dupe for these amazing mango margaritas I had in Holbox and THIS IS IT. The only difference I did was bring the OJ down to 1/2 cup and the other 1/2 of mango nectar or mango juice. I also added more tequila but that’s because we love our tequila at my house. 😝 These are so delicious!!!!

      • SLM says

How much more tequila did you add? I started with 3oz but thinking of upping it to 4oz. Keeping triple sec the same. Thoughts?

          • SLM says

Thanks so much!!! I followed the recipe exactly as given m, omitted the syrup as the mangoes in India are quite sweet. Used a slightly tart variety. They turned out fab. But I did feel the tequila needed yo be upped a bit. Thanks for this. :)
Shall re-make it on Friday as I have friends coming over. 😁

  8. Melissa says

Just got back from Mexico where I fell in love with Mango Margaritas!! They use a product called “Tajin” on the rim. It’s a citrusy chili lime seasoning. I was lucky enough to find it at my local grocery store in the Mexican food aisle so I am so excited to try this recipe with it!!

  9. David says

    I really like this recipe.
I didn’t have orange juice so I used simply juice mango lemonade.
Using this I didn’t need any other sweetener.
Also I didn’t use chilli powder. It’s got other spices besides chilli.
I used guajjillo molido and went with more sugar and just a dash of the molido.
I truly enjoyed your recipe and got great reviews from the neighbor.thanks!

  10. Lisa says

Just made these to celebrate our favourite Hawaiian in Mexico and the chilli lime salted rim goes great with the sweet mango. Yummy!

  11. Elana says

My husband made these for us last night to celebrate my birthday coming up (also a July baby!) – they were amazing!! Making them again tonight to kick off the weekend. Thanks for another awesome recipe!

  12. Ashley says

I’m sure the addition of chili powder on the rim accounts for a good yin yang factor, but being from Hawaii it’s gotta be li hing mui powder on the rim. Give it a try also if you can find in an Asian grocery store. Da bugger is ono sprinkled atop fresh mango, pineapple and other fruit as well.

  13. pam (Sidewalk Shoes) says

These sound amazing! My kind of margarita! I would love it if you would link it up to Tipsy Tuesday at Grey is the New Black!

  14. Hazel says

This cocktail looks absolutely amazing! The chilli on the rim is so clever! Now I just need some hot weather to kick in over here and I’ll make this!

  15. The fidgety foodie says

Looks amazing! Almost passable for brunch I think. I would try using Miguelito on the rim, I’ve been obsessed with it ever since I found it in Mexico.

  16. Thalia @ butter and brioche says

I too love a good margarita! And these chili, lime and mango margaritas definitely put any I have ever made before to shame. I definitely need to try out this recipe!

  17. Sarah @ People, Places & Plates says

  19. Jennifer {Peppers and Peaches} says

So there is a chance we were separated at birth because: 1) I LOVE margaritas…as in they are my favorite drink ever (also love tequila but that’s another story) 2) I will never ever get tired of Mexican. Hands down favorite type of food. I mean, tacos, enchiladas, beans, rice…what isn’t to like?! So naturally I am in love with this recipe. I am an “on the rocks” type margarita drinker and will have to pick up a few mangoes…because, obviously, I have everything else ;) Thanks for sharing this delicious looking drink…also, the rim sounds fantastic!

Nice! Yeah, I’d just suggest thinning it out a bit more with more OJ and lime and less mango, and serving it over ice. So good!

  20. Lydia @ Suitcase Foodist says

I have been a sucker for margaritas the past couple of weeks. Must be solidly spring….

  21. Lauren says

Oh my word. Yes thank you I want these in my life. I only recently discovered frozen mango and life is awesome. We have also been doing the Mexican after a long week routine lately. We’re getting smarter the more we age ;)

Agreed! I guess we really do get more wise! Either that or just lazy and predictable ;D Either way, Mexican food ftw!

  22. Sarah | Broma Bakery says

OK so I love Chipotle and eat there wayyy more than I should, but sometimes I want that everything from the can, no muss no fuss Mexican food. So I feel ya sister. Plus, mango margs? YES!

  23. Trisha says

These look so so delicious! We are having a party on Thursday, so will have to stock on ingredients for these. Thanks!
